The Mills is home to the Benzonia Public Library. The library is open to all residents of and visitors to Benzie County. The library has a large collection of books, periodicals, and audio tapes. In addition, its special collections include bound volumes of Benzie newspapers, a well-stocked children’s room, and the Michigan Room, which holds a wide selection of works focusing on Michigan and communities in the state.
During the school year, the Library hosts class groups for stories in the Children’s Room. There are also special events for children throughout the year, including a weekly story hour during the summer. For upcoming events, click here or call the library at 231.882.4111.
Bruce Catton
A complete collection of books by Bruce Catton, Pulitzer Prize winner for “A Stillness at Appomattox,” is on site at the Mills. Bruce Catton’s father, George, was headmaster of the Academy from 1906 to 1917. “Waiting for the Morning Train,” Catton’s memoir, is an evocative work about his growing up years in Benzonia.
